Megz Tillman-Trufant – hailing from New Orleans, LA – is a writer, performer/songwriter, and filmmaker, working under the moniker SOLTHOUGHT. Tillman-Trufant is based in Austin, TX where she studied Creative Writing and Rhetoric at St. Edward’s University and co-founded genre-defying hip hop band Magna Carda. As Magna’s songwriter and rap vocalist, she has performed at Austin City Limits and SXSW, toured nationally, and earned the title of Best Hip Hop Act at the 2017, 2018 and 2019 Austin Music Awards.
Tillman-Trufant is currently editor and creative director of WATER, a literary arts community and magazine dedicated to raising the voices and perspectives of black writers and creators, which was founded by Tillman-Trufant in 2017 and debuted its inaugural issue, BLACK BODIES, in 2018. Her current writing projects include ALL FRONTS – finalist and runner-up in the 2019 New Orleans Film Festival Screenplay Episodic Competition, a stage play adaptation SNIFF, and mock-series, CHERRY’S CHICKEN – a dark comedy chronicling the day-to-day of an eclectic fast food crew in suburban America.
